Race for Life

On Sunday I did the Tesco Cancer Research Race for Life womens 5k run in Stirling. There was a bit of confusion just before as it turned out I hadn't registered my mum or sister only me! So I decided to do it on my own but everyone came to cheer me on anyway. It was a miserable day in Stirling and I really wasn't looking forward to it but after an aerobic warmup with 3000 other mad women, the adrenalin started flowing and soon the rain was forgotten about.

We're back on Blogger!

After countless years of Mac loving, I have finally sold out and bought a PC. Some of you are probably saying "about bloody time" but I'm still finding hard to deal with. Anyway one major downside is that I can't maintain my lovely blog as it was created on iWeb which is exclusive to Macs. So after much searching, we decided to opt for Blogger again and use the old blog.

This time though I should be able to post more photos with less hassle than last time. Anyway watch this space for regular updates.

We're moving to a new blog!

After investing a sum of money on new software (iLife 06) for my mac, I have discovered iWeb which is a really cool piece of software for creating a family website that's a bit more than just a blog. So we've decided to say a fond farewell to Blogger. Technical issues made it difficult to insert photos on Blogger but is much easier on the new site. So please copy the address into your bookmarks and continue to keep up to date with all our goings on.

Also you can subscribe to our blog using RSS which means you get notification of any updates.

STRIKE!

STRIKE!

On Sunday we were all invited to Mathias's 6th birthday party. It was at the local ten pin bowling hall. The kids bowled first - they even had disco lights and bumpers to stop the ball rowling away. Then they all had hot dogs, ice lollies and birthday cake.

It was great fun for the kids and adults and Hamish actually managed to beat Heather by 1 point getting a strike on his last go!

Fun in the snow

Snow bear

On Saturday we all went up Fløyen (the mountain behind us) for a walk. We took the funicular up to the top then walked around.

It was really snowy on the top and VERY icy. Surprising as there was nothing at ground level and it had been quite mild too!

It was like we were in the Alps at the top. So we started on the forest path then stopped at a clearing. There was picnic tables and even an outdoor BBQ area. So we sat down and had our lunch 'al fresco'! It was fine as were were all dressed in our ski gear so we didn't feel the cold at all. Also I had made a flask of hot chocolate for us too.

We continued along the path until we had gone far enough so we then took a short cut back through the forest. With all the snow and the little paths, stone steps and bridges in the forest it was like fairy land. Hamish got tired on the way back and fell asleep on Alan.

We got back to the visitor centre and Heather had a play in the park while me and Alan had a much needed sit down and a coffee (Hamish was still asleep!).

Then we headed down again. Needless to say we were all glad to be in bed early and it was a Saturday night (how sad) but we had loads of fun. We're hoping to go skiing in the next few weeks so that'll be fun!

Hope you like the pictures :)

Reid family update

Heather Weather
Originally uploaded by Groovy Biscuits.
Well we had quite a busy weekend in the Reid household even though none of us were actually here!

Alan and I had a belated Christmas party for Alan's work in Stavanger so we were flown down there and put up in a hotel for the night. Meanwhile Heather stayed over at Michelle's house and Hamish stayed at Jamie's.

The party was excellent. We all met at the Norsk Oljemuseum (Norwegian Oil Museum) in Stavanger at 6 and were given a guided tour around the museum. Apart from the tour guide talking in Norwegian only, it was still quite interesting. Then after the tour, we all gathered in the foyer for champagne then through to the adjoining restaurant for a meal.

There were around 90 people so it was quite lively. The food was amazing (best I've had in Norway so far). It was loads of tapas including chilli prawns, mussels, squid, tuna, smoked salmon, lamb satay, meatballs, asparagus, baked tomatoes, olives, etc, etc. And of course, lots of red wine. My glass was never empty!

There was a couple of speeches and also a comedian/compere who was totally bi-lingual! Alan was convinced it was Norman Wisdom! Anyway the meal was great then afterwards we were all given $50,000 (fake money) to play in the casino they had brought in. They had hired a company who brought in genuine games. So there was a roulette table, black jack and poker. I played a blinder at roulette but not so good at black jack. Over all we came out $10,000 up which was good.

At the end of the night there was an auction and you could use your winnings to buy things. We were outbid every time unfortunately but it was amusing seeing a pack of golf balls sell for $200,000!

We headed back the following afternoon then collected the kids on the way home. Hamish didn't want to come home!

So that's our news from the weekend. Nothing planned for this week. Heather is still enjoying her piano lessons and has started back at ballet now too. She's also looking forward to her 6th birthday on the 21st Feb. The photo was taken to give to school for the birthday board but I thought it was so nice, I decided to post it here on the blog. Hope you like it.

Greetings from Ham 'n' Eggs

Me!
Originally uploaded by Groovy Biscuits.
Hello there bloggers, Hamish here "just checkin in". It's been a busy old few weeks with loads of toys to be played with since Santa came.

I got loads of stuff but my favourite was the Thomas trains I got for my Brio. When nana and papa came before Christmas they brought loads of tracks and stuff so now I can make MEGA tracks. I'm totally into Thomas the Tank Engine now. My favourite engine is probably Gordon followed by Henry. I think it's because they're the big engines. Size matters you know (it's a boy thing!).

So, what else have I been up to? Mum has been taking me to the gym. They've got a soft play area there WHICH I HATE! Even though I've got my friend Zara there, I still cry when mummy leaves me. I even tried not getting out of the car in protest but that didn't work - she carried me in :(

Mum says it's good for me but personally, I'd much prefer to be at home watching TV. She even says that I'll be going to nursery after the summer but I really don't think so!

Most days are the same here actually which I like. I'm a bit of a routine boy, don't like change. I get up usually as Heather and Daddy are leaving for work and school. I have my breakfast then sit in my egg and watch Nick Jr or Cbeebies for much of the day. My favourites are Thomas the Tank Engine (of course), Max and Ruby and Dora the Explorer although I quite enjoy Lazy Town too.

Weekends are good though cos I get to watch a movie in Heather's bed on Friday and Saturday night. Last weekend it was Lizzie McGuire which was ok but I got a bit fed up after the 6th time! Heather just got it and won't watch anything else. I like Toy Story but Heather's seen it too many times to let me watch it.

On Sunday we went to the lake by Heather's school to feed the ducks. That was fun although I slipped on the ice whilst chasing them. I was ok. I was getting a bit cold after a while though, so Dad carried me back to the car and we went home.

Not much doing today. Mum has been putting curtains and blinds up so I'm just avoiding the electric screwdriver. "Too noisy"! Dad should be home soon then mum is going to her norwegian class tonight. Means dad's cooking again...EEK! He burnt the pizza last week and the chips were still raw.

Anyhoo gotta go, Dora's on soon. Catch you all later.

A day out at the lake

Today we all went for a walk around the lake at Heather's school. It was cold and damp but we put on our rain clothes and headed out.

The kids had a great time feeding the ducks and walking round the lake. We stopped half way round for a quick play on the swings then continued round the lake. It was very nice, the kids had great fun splashing in all the puddles and smashing the ice that had collected on the rocks.

It was also nice to get home and have some hot soup!

I have discovered the best website ever! It's the website for Edward Monkton, who I've been a fan of for some years now thanks to a card my sister bought me (The Pig of Happiness). Anyway he's got a site and it's brill. If you like a bit of 'lateral humour' you'll love this!
