We're moving to a new blog!

After investing a sum of money on new software (iLife 06) for my mac, I have discovered iWeb which is a really cool piece of software for creating a family website that's a bit more than just a blog. So we've decided to say a fond farewell to Blogger. Technical issues made it difficult to insert photos on Blogger but is much easier on the new site. So please copy the address into your bookmarks and continue to keep up to date with all our goings on.

Also you can subscribe to our blog using RSS which means you get notification of any updates.

STRIKE!

STRIKE!

On Sunday we were all invited to Mathias's 6th birthday party. It was at the local ten pin bowling hall. The kids bowled first - they even had disco lights and bumpers to stop the ball rowling away. Then they all had hot dogs, ice lollies and birthday cake.

It was great fun for the kids and adults and Hamish actually managed to beat Heather by 1 point getting a strike on his last go!

Fun in the snow

On Saturday we all went up Fløyen (the mountain behind us) for a walk. We took the funicular up to the top then walked around.

It was really snowy on the top and VERY icy. Surprising as there was nothing at ground level and it had been quite mild too!

It was like we were in the Alps at the top. So we started on the forest path then stopped at a clearing. There was picnic tables and even an outdoor BBQ area. So we sat down and had our lunch 'al fresco'! It was fine as were were all dressed in our ski gear so we didn't feel the cold at all. Also I had made a flask of hot chocolate for us too.

We continued along the path until we had gone far enough so we then took a short cut back through the forest. With all the snow and the little paths, stone steps and bridges in the forest it was like fairy land. Hamish got tired on the way back and fell asleep on Alan.

We got back to the visitor centre and Heather had a play in the park while me and Alan had a much needed sit down and a coffee (Hamish was still asleep!).

Then we headed down again. Needless to say we were all glad to be in bed early and it was a Saturday night (how sad) but we had loads of fun. We're hoping to go skiing in the next few weeks so that'll be fun!

Hope you like the pictures :)

Reid family update

Heather Weather
Originally uploaded by Groovy Biscuits.
Well we had quite a busy weekend in the Reid household even though none of us were actually here!

Alan and I had a belated Christmas party for Alan's work in Stavanger so we were flown down there and put up in a hotel for the night. Meanwhile Heather stayed over at Michelle's house and Hamish stayed at Jamie's.

The party was excellent. We all met at the Norsk Oljemuseum (Norwegian Oil Museum) in Stavanger at 6 and were given a guided tour around the museum. Apart from the tour guide talking in Norwegian only, it was still quite interesting. Then after the tour, we all gathered in the foyer for champagne then through to the adjoining restaurant for a meal.

There were around 90 people so it was quite lively. The food was amazing (best I've had in Norway so far). It was loads of tapas including chilli prawns, mussels, squid, tuna, smoked salmon, lamb satay, meatballs, asparagus, baked tomatoes, olives, etc, etc. And of course, lots of red wine. My glass was never empty!

There was a couple of speeches and also a comedian/compere who was totally bi-lingual! Alan was convinced it was Norman Wisdom! Anyway the meal was great then afterwards we were all given $50,000 (fake money) to play in the casino they had brought in. They had hired a company who brought in genuine games. So there was a roulette table, black jack and poker. I played a blinder at roulette but not so good at black jack. Over all we came out $10,000 up which was good.

At the end of the night there was an auction and you could use your winnings to buy things. We were outbid every time unfortunately but it was amusing seeing a pack of golf balls sell for $200,000!

We headed back the following afternoon then collected the kids on the way home. Hamish didn't want to come home!

So that's our news from the weekend. Nothing planned for this week. Heather is still enjoying her piano lessons and has started back at ballet now too. She's also looking forward to her 6th birthday on the 21st Feb. The photo was taken to give to school for the birthday board but I thought it was so nice, I decided to post it here on the blog. Hope you like it.
