Heather's new haircut

Heather's new haircut
Originally uploaded by Groovy Biscuits.
Well today was a big day in the Reid household. Heather had a major haircut. This came about after I threatened her with chopping her hair off if she kept taking out her bobbles at school. Thinking this would make her keep them in, instead her reaction was "can we go to the hairdressers today?".

So off we went. She hasn't stopped smiling and admiring herself in the mirror ever since! Don't know about you but I can't get over how grown up she looks!

1,2,3,4...Hi-5

hi-5

Well what can I say, went to see Hi-5 on stage today. Went with Wendy, Heather and my 3 nieces Charlotte, Libby and Abby. It was the live show of Hi-5's Space Magic. I have to say it was quite good. We booked the tickets months ago and managed to get the second row from the front.

Although unbelievably cheesy, it knocks the socks off any UK effort like Balamory and Tikabilla. The songs were upbeat, the dancing was good and the presenters looked cool instead of middle-aged frumps like they have on Tikabilla. (Apologies if you don't watch Cbeebies!!!).

Anyway the main thing is that the kids enjoyed it.

It's all Greek to me! (or should I say Norwegian)

I've had a quick look at my learn Norwegian book to try and get to grips with the basics. OH MY GOD it's impossible! I managed an O Grade in Russian and thought that was hard but nothing compared to Norwegian! Ah well, practice makes perfect I suppose.

It's official, we're off to Bergen!

After a very tense few days, we can now confirm that the move to Bergen is ON!!! Baroid had offered Alan an Operations Manager post in Saudi Arabia but there were complications in gaining approval for us to move to Bahrain. Baroid would have preferred us to stay in Saudi but we all agree that it's not suitable for a young family.

So, Alan has decided to go with his original plan and move to Bergen. We can now go ahead with planning and all the millions of other things we need to do before then!

Alan leaves for Bergen on Thursday which is a bit soon but me and the kids are going over for a week's visit the first week in May so that'll be good. I thought I'd post some photos I found of Bergen, looks really nice. I'll take some of my own pictures in May and post them then. In the meantime, enjoy.

Daddy's Home

Alan came home yesterday morning looking very tanned and lovely. It's taken him 2 years in Nigeria to get a tan and he waits until he comes home for the last time to get brown! So yes that's the end of Nigeria for Alan which we're all delighted about.

The plan is he's here until Wednesday then he flies out to Norway for a meeting in Stavanger on Thursday. Although that's possibly all up in the air...watch this space for more news on that...

Me and the kids went to Edinburgh airport to pick him up from the 8.20 from Paris where he stopped en-route from Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Heather had a party at The Tall Ship at 2pm, so me, Alan and Hamish went to Alan's parents' until it was time to pick Heather up.

Got a curry in the evening with some seriously yummy sparkling shiraz.. Alan flaked out early as he'd been travelling all night but I wasn't complaining as it was just so good to have him home (asleep or awake!).

Cool Music

I was going through all my mp3 files today in a futile attempt to sort them out and I came across one which I had to share with you. It was on a CD I copied for my mum. It's been used on various TV ads, etc and is just the coolest tune ever. It's called Swingin' Safari and if you'd like to download it, click here.

Easter in the Reid House

Easter in the Reid House

I know it's a bit late but I just found this pic on the camera and had to share it with you. Heather got a 'decorate your own egg' for Easter and here's her effort. I think it looks like some kind of zulu warrior or possibly Mr Potato Head with a tan! Tasted good though.

Drinks a plenty!

This was taken after the Rufus Wainwright concert in Glasgow. Lou and Scott had been sipping cocktails while we were at the concert. Can you tell???

One Man Band

I fell for this joke at the weekend and thought it was so funny I had to share it with you.

Basically you need a group of friends and after a few drinks when everyone is merry you say "someone was talking to me the other day about a one man band. I've never heard of a one man band, do any of you know what it is?" Then someone will attempt to explain it, you then say "nah, still don't know what you're on about, it just sounds ridiculous".

Then all the people get involved trying to explain and demonstrate what a one man band is. Flapping their arms, kicking their legs, sound effects, the lot. You keep this going for as long as you like claiming you still don't know what they're on about.

Eventually you tell them you knew all along and see their faces when they realise how stupid they've all looked for the past 20 minutes trying to explain what a one man band is.

Absolutely genius. I fell for it hook line and sinker. Works best after a few drinks though.

Enjoy :)

What a week it's been!!!

Hi there all, well what a week it's been for me, just so much going on I've hardly had time to catch my breath. I've been doing a big job for one of my clients this week and it's pretty much taken up all of my time, day and night. Change after change after change. It finally went to print today...phew!

Friends from Aberdeen, Lou and Scott came down on Friday to stay for a few days. It was a great weekend. Scott even managed or rather volunteered to babysit while Lou and I went shopping! How good was that! I have to say he was a real star with the kids and they seem to enjoy it too. Hamish can relate to Scott, possibly because of the red hair!

Went to see Rufus Wainwright at the Glasgow Concert Hall on Sunday night with Julie and a few others. He was very good live although the encore was extremely odd. It involved naked musicians, sequined cod pieces, whips, stripy socks and strobe lights. Don't ask, just don't ask. Nevertheless he was very good. We met up with Lou and Scott in Glasgow afterwards and had some drinks.

Got home at 3am then my mum phoned at 4.30 to say that their water tank had exploded and I had to go over! Bloody nightmare! Water everywhere. They managed to get a plumber and all seems to be well again.

Today we had our new hall and stairs carpet laid. It's a gorgeous Black Watch tartan and looks the business in our hall. Went over to my mother-in-law's as it was her birthday today.

Anyway not much more to tell, will speak soon.

Jill

We're on the move again!

Well just when we thought we'd settle in Dullatur, it was not to be. Alan has been offered a new job which is great news as it's not in Nigeria. Only thing is that it's...wait for it...Bergen! (That's in Norway for those of you who don't know). So in true Reid style, we've all decided to go.

It's great news for us as it means we all get to be together again as one big happy family! We're in the process of enrolling Heather in the International School of Bergen (http://www.isb.gs.hl.no/) so she's quite excited about that. We're not planning on selling the house just yet, we want to rent it out so we've always got our UK investment. Alan should be going at the end of April and we'll follow in the summer sometime.

Other news...more happy news received today, my friend Kirsten is 3 months pregnant. Delighted for her and Andy. Didn't waste much time though, they've only been married since November!!!
